"Food" is the word which some how attracts all category of population. And when it comes to travel lovers, it becomes a sensation for them to explore the new and unique variety of food available in this world.
So today I am sharing the list of top foods varieties available in Udaipur. This list is not limited to street food only, I will share the famous dishes available in Udaipur that everyone must try ones if he/she is visiting here.
Now lets jump to the finger licking dishes waiting for you.....
1. Dabeli
At first place I am placing this spicy street food which gives a mouth watering flavor and keeps you begging for more and more. Although Dabeli was originated in Kutch, Gujarat, but still Udaipur has given a new and unique taste to this dish which makes it a famous and must try street food.
Dabeli is prepared with Bun stuffed with special gravy prepared with meshed potatoes, pomegranate seeds, peanuts, spices and much more. It is served with tomato sauce and special chilli 'chatni' prepared by expert chefs on the Larry.
This heaven taste can not be explained in words. Each bite gives you tears in your eyes and releases a fire storm from your ears. It's a perfect street food for the spice lovers out there.
2. Poha
It is basically flattened rice in dry flakes form. It is further processed by dipping into water and then squeezed to remove excess water. It is then fried on pan with a mixture of spices, salt, peanuts, a small portion of sugar and much more. After preparing dish, this is topped with pomegranate seeds, and a squeeze of half lemon.
Now you can imagine the taste. I already started craving for "Poha". Poha's basically originated from Maharastra & Madhya Pradesh. And are prepared all over the India with different names. But if we are talking of Udaipur, its taste is unique and best. This dish is mostly a nice breakfast for the localities.
3. Dal - Bati - Churma
Dal-Bati-Churma, needs no introduction in the whole world. Rajasthan is famous for this dish and are now available in almost all states of India. The spicy Dal with Bati and Churma laddu as desert gives you a complete meal which fills your stomach along with soul.
Variety of restaurants are serving with delicious taste of this traditional dish in Udaipur. If you are planning for Udaipur or anywhere in Rajasthan, this is a sure shot try for you.
4. Gatte ki Saag
Gatte ki saag or Gatte ki sabji is another famous dish of Rajasthan. This is a spicy 'Sabzi' made with gram flour dumplings in a hot and spicy gravy. 'Gatte ki saag' can be enjoyed with roti or with plain rice. This deadly combo with rice is extremely tasty and tongue pleasing. If you visited Rajasthan and did not try this dish then you have to visit here back just to try this 'Saag'.
And I bet it is not a loss making deal. Just come and enjoy it.
5. Ker Sangri
The next famous from Udaipur is Ker Sangri. Ker is a wild berry which is tangy and peppery in taste. On the other hand Sangri is a long bean which is grown in desert areas of Jaisalmer. This combination is also made in form of Sabzi. And tastes awesome with bajra and butter milk.
These type of unique combinations are only possible in Rajasthan. If you have not tasted it yet, then just don't wait for right time to come, just came and witness the tradition of Royal City.
6. Raab
This is the desi soup of Udaipur. And you will find it during winter season. Reason being the ingredients and its form. Raab is made from Millet (Bajra) flour and butter milk, which is heated and fermented. This combination is stored in a earthen pot and mixed to make it a thick sauce. Now it is ready to heat up under low temperature until it gets cooked to its best taste.
Now your Raab is ready to remove the cold from from your body. It is very good for health and keeps the cold away from you. After any meal this is the must have dish during winters. Have you tried it yet??
7. Panch-Kuta
As the name indicates, it is made with 5 (panch) ingredients. Panchkuta is a curry which is prepared with 5 special components found only in Thar desert. These ingredients are Ker, Sangri, Kumat, Gunda (wild berry), dry red chillies.
The most interesting and important quality of this dish is that it can be stored for a long period of time. It tastes best with poori. Now its just time for you to take out some time from your busy schedule and run towards Rajasthan....☺☺
8. Ghevar
Finally, there is something for the sweet tooth crowed, I am also included. This is a sweet which came directly from Jaipur to the plates of India. This sweet is a round disc made from Flour, soaked in Ghee, milk and topped with sliced almonds. It has a crunchy texture and is consumed by a huge population of India.
It is prepared in many formats, famous among them is Malai Ghevar, Maava Ghevar, and sooo onnn.
9. Pyaz ki Kachori
Kachori is something which everyone would have tried in his/her life. But here is a special Kachori which is made from Onion. Pyaz ki kachori is flaky, deep fried breads made from plain flour and stuffed with a spicy onion mixture with spices like fennel, cumin, turmeric and chilli powder.
This dish is basically a breakfast grab coming from Jodhpur to all over India now.
10. Laal Maans
Although I am pure vegetarian, but still we are talking about famous food of Udaipur (Rajasthan), so Laal Maans (Red Meat) is also in the list. Traditionally Laal Maas was cooked for the royal families in old age where wild boar and deer were killed. Continuing the tradition, today Laal Maans is made with mutton. It is red in color so it got its name as Laal Maans.
